Sketches & Posters

The Sketches & Posters online submission system will be closed on Saturday, 12 July 2008, 2200, UTC/GMT. All forms must be filled out, and all materials must be successfully uploaded by that time. The Sketches & Posters submission deadline will be strictly enforced. We strongly encourage starting the submission form, including at least title, author, and affiliations, at least a day in advance. Also, please do not wait until the last minute to upload your files. Use this checklist to ensure that your submission is complete and that it meets all applicable programme requirements:

1. Do NOT submit artwork to Posters & Sketches. Please see the the main Call for Participation page and Sketches & Posters Frequently Asked Questions to decide whether your submission is appropriate for Sketches & Posters.

2. Read this entire page, so you know everything about the submission process. When you decide that you will be submitting a sketch or poster, create an Online Submission Form.

When you create this form, your entry will be assigned a Submission ID number, of the form "sap_0042," that will be used to identify your submission throughout the review process. Make a record of this number. There will be some fields in this form that you cannot complete at this time. You will go back and fill these in later.

3. Prepare a print-ready version of your sketch or poster. The document must be a one-page PDF file. You may use the SIGGRAPH template for papers (restricted to one page). Sketch and poster submissions are not anonymous and should include the names of all collaborators on the work and their institutions. Your single-page PDF should be self-contained, and it should include a description of the novel aspect of the work, along with appropriate figures, tables, results, and references.

Prepare the document with the Submission ID number alongside the printed title. For example: "Rendering Hair (sap_0239)." In all other ways, the document must be in final format. Submissions that are more than one page long or that are improperly formatted will not be considered.

4. Prepare a JPEG teaser image to act as a visual "advertisement" of your submission. The image can be any size, but we recommend roughly 800 x 600 pixels. The submission system will automatically resize it for a number of purposes, including a visual cue for the review committee and possible appearance on the SIGGRAPH Asia 2008 web site or on displays at the conference itself. The image can be anything at all (a frame from an animation, a test result, a photo of the apparatus, etc.), as long as it is somehow related to the submission.

5. OPTIONAL: Non-native English speakers may use the English Review Service to help with the text of submissions. Please note that this takes time, so your submission should be sent to the English Review Service well before the final Sketches deadline.

6. OPTIONAL: Prepare electronic versions of your optional supporting materials. The one-page submission must stand alone as an overview and summary of the proposed sketch or poster. But in many cases, it is impossible for the jury to evaluate a sketch or poster without seeing the results or project demonstrated in more detail. Accordingly, submitters may provide supporting material in the form of video, images, and/or further documentation:

  • Images: Submitters may provide high-resolution images to demonstrate their work. Any number of images may be uploaded, but they must be in one of these formats:

    JPEG (filename *.jpg)
    TIFF (filename *.tif)
    PNG (filename *.png)
    GIF (filename *.gif)

  • Video: All submitters are encouraged to provide video demonstrations of their projects, if available. Up to five minutes of video may be uploaded, in one or more separate files. We can only accommodate videos in QuickTime, MPEG-4 or DivX Version 5 (or later) formats. The total length of all videos should not exceed five minutes. Remember that the total size of all uploaded files should not exceed 100 MB (see FAQ: My video files are larger than 100 MB. What should I do?).

  • Documentation: In some cases, results can best be conveyed as a document with images, graphs, charts, and so forth. Supporting documentation should be in PDF format, up to three pages long, and should contain mostly captioned figures or tables. Please refrain from submitting an expanded paper, as the jury will not have time to read it.

7. After your documents are complete, return to this web site and complete the Online Submission Form. The title that you enter in this form must exactly match that of the document. List all authors of the work. Make sure that the keywords you enter in this form are appropriate for your submission.

8. After you begin the submission process, you will be able to upload your PDF file containing the print-ready version of your sketch or poster described in 2 above, the thumbnail image described in 3 above, and the optional support files described in 5 above. With slow or unreliable network connections, uploading is not always smooth and easy. The total size of all uploaded data should not exceed 100 MB.
